Tom Swift and the Visitor from Planet X by Victor Appleton.
Victor Appleton was a house name owned by the publisher. Several authors actually wrote the Tom Swift stories. The bulk of the stories were completed by 1941.
This story is from a second group and was published in 1961. The Cold War is very much evident in the plot. The most obvious anachronism is that throughout the story telephones are on walls or desks but never in pockets.
Tom cranks out a steady stream of high-tech inventions that are planned and manufactured at a dizzying pace. My favorite is the combination helicopter/submarine. Naturally everything is atomic powered and every chapter ends with a cliffhanger.
